NEWS: Cadet leaders prepare to teach their peers

INFO: Major Traffic Delays Thursday for Pentagon Memorial Dedication

On Sept. 11, 2008, a new memorial honoring victims of the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon will be dedicated. The ceremony will be held that morning for invited guests only. The memorial will be open to the public beginning at 7 p.m. To commemorate the memorial's public opening, the Navy Band and Sea Chanters Chorus will perform a musical tribute from 7-9 p.m. on the stage adjacent to the memorial. There will be major road and Interstate closures in the area. Metro bus service will be moved to Pentagon City, and the Pentagon Metro Station will offer rail service only. NEWS: CAP responds to District’s Emergency Operations Center in wake of Hanna

WASHINGTON — For the first time, Civil Air Patrol’s National Capital Wing was activated to provide around-the-clock support to the District of Columbia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency in response to a pending incident. CAP liaisons were integrated into D.C.’s Emergency Operations Center Sept. 5-7 to provide aerial photographs of storm damage and flooding in response to Tropical Storm Hanna. ... (read more)
NEWS: District of Columbia prepares for Tropical Storm Hanna

WASHINGTON — District of Columbia government agencies are mobilizing personnel, equipment and other resources in anticipation of possible severe weather this weekend. The National Weather Service reports that the District could be affected by wind and rain related to tropical storm Hanna. The current forecast indicates the possibility that the western edge of the storm may impact the District with minimal wind and rain on Saturday and Sunday.

INFO: Centennial of Military Aviation Celebration Sept. 6

The U.S. Army will celebrate 100 years of military aviation Sept. 6 at Fort Myer, Va., which will be open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There will be an opening ceremony with service flyovers and a ceremonial military pageant at Summerall Field at 10 a.m. Parking for the general public will be at the Pentagon North Parking Lot (Boundary Channel Drive at Washington Boulevard) and the Navy Annex (Columbia Pike and S. Joyce Street), and shuttle busses will transport attendees to and from Fort Myer all day beginning at 8:15 a.m. Pedestrian may enter Fort Myer through both Wright and Henry Gates. NEWS: CAP emergency services teams prepare for Gustav’s landfall

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As Hurricane Gustav moves closer to the Gulf Coast, Civil Air Patrol members are making preparations to safeguard CAP assets and preparing to respond to requests for assistance after the storm makes landfall.
