ARLINGTON, Va. — Royal Canadian Air Cadets from the Air Cadet League of Canada’s 330th Danforth Tech Squadron in Toronto spent the evening with Civil Air Patrol’s Arlington Composite Squadron and Fairfax Composite Squadron members March 18. They were visiting D.C. during their spring break.

The 2009 Ground Search and Rescue College will be held at Pocahontas State Park near Richmond April 17-19 and May 8-9. Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) courses in Field Team Member (FTM), Field Team Leader (FTL) and Practical Search Operations (PSO) will be offered.

NEWS: Aviatrix inspires Airmen

ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, Md. (Capital Flyer) — Throughout the month of March, the nation celebrates historical and groundbreaking achievements by women. One such woman is aviatrix Mary Feik.

When 18-year-old Mary Feik accepted a position in research and development at Wright field in Dayton, Ohio, (now Wright-Patterson Air Force Base), she had to wait for an assignment. Since she was the first female ever hired to work as one of their flight mechanics, finding a place for her took a little longer than usual.

INFO: National Emergency Services Academy

Applications are now being accepted for the 2009 National Emergency Services Academy (NESA) to be held at Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh, Indiana, from the 27 June until 11 July. There are courses for all members interested in emergency services, and this is a great opportunity for both new members as well as experienced members to come train with hundreds of their peers from across the country.
